2019 Leadership Award Winners Officially Announced

Each year, the North Dakota Medical Association honors a physician and a non-physician who have made outstanding contributions to the medical profession, patients, and their communities. The North Dakota Medical Association's Executive Committee is charged with reviewing the nominees and selecting recipients. The Committee is pleased to announced the following recipients:
Physician Community and Professional Services Award
The Physician Community and Professional Services award, will be presented to Dr. Gary Ramage – a distinguished physician who will be recognized for his 23 years of dedicated service to the development of rural and community medicine. This award is recognized as North Dakota’s most prestigious physician award and since its inception in 1977, has been awarded to forty-three distinguished physicians across the state.
Friend of Medicine Award
The Friend of Medicine Award will be presented to Jeana Peinovich, Director of Fargo-based Lend A Hand. Lend A Hand raises financial help and hope for families in Cass and Clay counties in medical crisis and Jeana has worked with more than 400 families through these critical moments when lives are disrupted.
COPIC Humanitarian Award
An entirely new award recipient this year selected by COPIC - NDMA's endorsed medical liability partner - brings forward a $10,000 COPIC Humanitarian award. COPIC is pleased to announce that Dr. Mary Aaland is this year's winner. This award honors a North Dakota physician for outstanding charitable community efforts. Dr. Aaland, Associate Professor of Surgery and director of Clinical Research at the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences, has focused her mission on bringing the American College of Surgeons’ Stop the Bleed training program to rural North Dakota. Driven by passion to save lives when seconds matter, it’s her goal to train 1,000 participants in the Stop the Bleed program each year. The $10,000 grant will allow this good work to continue in rural North Dakota.
In addition to her listed responsibilities with the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Dr. Aaland recently served as Governor to the the American College of Surgeons, North Dakota Chapter.
