NDMA Participates in State Advocacy Summit
The AMA State Advocacy Summit, held each January, is an opportunity for physicians, national experts, state legislators and regulators, and medical society staff to network on pertinent issues impacting the profession of medicine.
NDMA Vice President and Council Chair Dr. Joshua C. Ranum, along with NDMA Executive Director Courtney Koebele, participated the summit along with many other state associations and physician leaders.
Kicking off this year’s AMA State Advocacy Summit was a sweeping three-part session that took a “big picture” look at health policy and public opinion trends tracking across the country. Participants heard from legislators’ perspectives on the future of health care and issues needing to be addressed within their states. Discussions were held on how physicians and medical associations can better work with policymakers to address priority issues. Some topics discussed included:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare and the role of medical boards
- Prescription drug transparency
- State-level efforts to end the opioid epidemic
- The vaping epidemic
Participation at events like the AMA State Advocacy Summit is vitally-important in keeping ahead of issues that may impact the practice of medicine in our state.
